The CWA is the largest lay organization in the Catholic Church in Cameroon since its inception in 1962. Its growth has extended beyond the shores of its humble beginnings to the diaspora, thus into the US with branches in Houston, Dallas, Maryland, Baltimore, Delaware, Atlanta, Boston, Minnesota and Los Angeles.
Objectives
The objectives of the Association include helping members achieve spiritual renewal, translating into action by evangelization, building the domestic church, charitable activities and modeling the lifestyle of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Education and training of members in social development aids in enhancing their contribution to family and society.
The Motto of the Association is:
“To serve and not to be served”.
Branches
Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Mercy CWA Branches.
St Nicholas Catholic Church is blessed with two branches of the Catholic Women Association;
- Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Branch (ICB)
- Our Lady of Mercy Branch.
As disciples of Mary, CWA adheres to their Motto; “To Serve and Not To be Served”; the branches actively participate in the activities of The Assumption Cameroon Catholic Community of Houston, TX. Members are involved in all aspects of Church activities, i.e. Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers, Catechists, Choir, Alter Linen Servers, as well as serving on the Parish Council. Many of our children participate as Altar Servers. Furthermore, as ambassadors of Mary, CWA often leads the rosary during community events that need prayers, such as wake keeps and other joyous occasions. Through these various activities we are fulfilling the call to the new evangelization within our homes, community and society at large.
Aside from weekly Devotional conference calls, bi-weekly meetings hold after Mass at the Parish. Occasionally, meetings hold at a member’s home when necessary. Each member gets the opportunity to prepare and lead the weekly lessons.
